Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and College

Working with students with physical disabilities and health conditions and their families on college transition, one question almost always comes up: “how will we pay for this?” Many students and families may not be aware that the student may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and well as other types of federal and state assistance. Families have so many questions about SSI, so I sat down with Alexandra Baig of Companions on Your Journey to discuss SSI and how it may be useful for students considering college. We covered:

  • How and when to sign up
  • What the funds can be used for
  • Tips for your SSI interview and application

I learned so much during our conversation. I hope you will too! If you need support preparing your student with a physical disability and/or health condition, contact me
