Physical Disability College Planning

The college planning process

Many families wait until the last minute to prepare for their students’ transition to college. The college planning process for students with physical disabilities requires time and intention. By committing to the process early on, I can ensure that your student will have all the tools necessary to have a smooth transition to college. I have worked with students with varying types of paralysis, including students with spinal cord injuries, spinal muscular atrophy, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other types of mobility impairments, as well as students who are visually impaired and hearing impaired. I understand the in’s and outs of the college experience including and beyond academics.

To find out more about the Physical Disability College Planning services parents can schedule a free 30 minute consultation. Starting as early as 9th grade through the end of senior year, I work with families to understand the needs of the student in all settings (academic, residential, and programmatic), develop self-advocacy skills, prepare students to manage their healthcare needs, and develop executive function skills including: time management and study skills, in order to prepare them for college success.

Testimonials

Annie’s guidance helped me really get to the crux of matters, and avoid the vague answers typically provided by college representatives. She also helped me think about the day as a whole and think of each step, and examine issues that don’t really come up in the high school setting.

After our son was born, he was in the NICU for a few weeks. No one knew what to do with him. One doctor offered to help us find an institution for him. Looking back on those dark, scary days, I never would have imagined that he would be living in an apartment in downtown with two nice roommates, taking care of himself, and going to college!
