Medicaid and College

Many of the students I support who have physical disabilities and health conditions need personal care support or other health/condition specific support services while they are in college. Families are often curious about how students pay for care and services while they are in college. Some students and families may not be aware that the student may be eligible for Medicaid, as well as other types of federal and state assistance. Additionally, some families who already receive Medicaid may not be aware of how supports can continue when a student goes to college. Families have lots of questions about Medicaid, so I sat down with Alexandra Baig of Companions on Your Journey to discuss Medicaid and how it may be useful for students considering college. We covered:
- What is Medicaid?
- Am I eligible for Medicaid?
- What are waivers?
- Can I use Medicaid to get personal care attendants?
I learned so much during our conversation. I hope you will too! If you need support preparing your student with a physical disability and/or health condition, contact me!
