Hope Talk: Making College Accessible

Annie Tulkin from Accessible College joined Sonny Mullen from Help Hope Live, alongside Kasie Somerville, a full-time care attendant and mom, and her son Austin, who’s currently navigating college life at Clemson University with a spinal cord injury. We had a wide ranging conversation on making college accessible for students with disabilities.We shared real-life experiences, practical advice, and strategies to make the transition to college smoother and more accessible.



Accessible College’s Online Course-This self-paced course is designed for parents, educators, counselors, and healthcare providers: “Preparing Students with Physical Disabilities and Health Conditions for College”. CEU credits through American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB).
- Accessible College partnership with the Reeve Foundation: Annie has a partnership with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Students with any type of paralysis can work with her for free for up to 3 hours.
- Navigating the Transition to College with Paralysis: This is a guide Annie wrote for the Reeve Foundation.
- A Wheelchair User’s Guide to Preparing for College and How to Secure Housing and Manage PCA Services at College: Two pieces Annie wrote for New Mobility magazine.
- United Spinal: Wheels on Campus-20 wheelchair friendly campuses guide: This is a guide that United Spinal and New Mobility Magazine put together. Outlining the most wheelchair accessible campuses and discussing college options for wheelchair users.
- Accessible College and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA): Working Together to Support Students: A series of resources and webinars created by Accessible College with MDA.
