College Readiness Resource for Blind and Visually Impaired Students

I’m incredibly excited to share the College Readiness Resource Center that I have been working on with my friends at The Perkins School for the Blind! I’m grateful to Leslie Thatcher, Director of College Success at Perkins, for inviting me to be a consultant on this amazing resource that we created for blind and visually impaired students, their families, and educators. It’s important to note that we are adding more pieces and resources to this site. It’s dynamic. We have a lot to share! Check out the kick-off webinar that gives an introduction to the resource center!
Here are the pieces that I wrote:
- Accommodations beyond academics: Housing and dining
- Access to student information in college: FERPA, HIPAA, Releasing information, and legal documents
- Academic Rigor
- Before your college tour: make a To Do list
- Readjusting expectations: Preparing for college
- Questions for visually impaired students to ask the disability support office
Check out the full Perkins-College Readiness Resource Center . The pieces are geared toward supporting students who are blind and visually impaired with the college preparation, search, and transition process, but the pieces have wider applicability to students with other disabilities and health conditions. If you are seeking guidance and support for students with physical disabilities and health conditions contact me for a free 30 minute consultation!
